Housing
South Ribble’s current housing requirement is identified in the Joint Lancashire Structure Plan. However, in light of the latest population information, this plan is likely to be superseded by the North West Regional Spatial Strategy when it is adopted later this year.
The Draft Regional Spatial Strategy sets out a target of 411,000 homes to be built between 2003 and 2021, with 8,600 of these to be in South Ribble. The strategy also stresses the lack of affordable housing in the region.
The Penwortham Mills development would provide up to 425 new homes. The mix of housing will reflect current demand in the area and will include terraced, semi-detached and detached dwellings and apartments.
The proposals include a contribution towards meeting the affordable housing needs of the local area.
