Sport and leisure

The Vernon Carus sports club and associated fields is situated at the north of the proposed development site. The club was founded in 1969 and has over 400 members include five senior and seven junior cricket teams, and 19 junior and three senior football teams. The club is currently a leaseholder.

The proposals for the redevelopment of Penwortham Mills would deliver guaranteed security of tenure for the club through a transfer of freehold.

This would allow the club to apply for funding from sports bodies and the National Lottery – needed to update the club’s facilities.

In addition, the proposals include the construction of a multi-use games area in the north of the site that will be available for use by both the club and its members as well as local residents.
